MEET THE CANDIDATES VOTE NOVEMBER 3,2009

Nick MullaneFirst Selectman Nicholas H. Mullane II

Nick is uniquely qualified to be our First Selectman because of his vast experience in our Town’s government, in management, and his total interest and activity in North Stonington. Nick dedicates long working hours fully to the needs of North Stonington. Townspeople know that Nick has successfully guided North Stonington through many very dynamic and profound events and has done his very best for our town.

He and his wife,Florence, have lived on Miller Road since 1970. Their three children, all graduates of Wheeler High School, are on there own. Nick is a retired Electric Boat Contracts Supervisor and longtime member of the Grange and active in the annual fair.
Shawn Murphy Selectman Shawn P. Murphy
Shawn has been a Selectman for the past two years. Prior to this he served on the Board of Education and on the Board of Finance as Chairman. He is an active member and Treasurer of the Republican Town Committee and was a former member of the Public Safety Complex Committee.

Shawn is a retired naval officer and is currently employed as a Contracts Administrator and Auxiliary Services Manager at Connecticut College. His extensive financial, administrative, material and project management experience helps to maximize the effectiveness of the Board of Selectmen. He has earned a Bachelor of Science in Management, and has completed coursework towards a Master of Public Administration degree.

Shawn has demonstrated his devotion to our community through his continued commitment to town government. He routinely attends various board and commission meetings to keep abreast of current issues affecting our town, to provide input, and to listen to citizens concerns.



Norma Holiday
Town Clerk Norma J. Holliday


Norma has held the position of Town Clerk for eight years. She has been instrumental in the modernization of the town records. She previously worked at the North Stonington Senior Center as Director as well as the Agent for the Elderly.

She and her husband Steve live at Mains Crossing Road with their daughters Kaitlyn and Jeanette.
Norma is a member of the North Stonington Volunteer Fire Company and is an active member of the fair committee.




Town Treasurer Robin D. Roohr

Robin and her husband Matt have been residents for 26 years. They have 2 children, Matt Jr. and Amanda.

She served three years as temporary Treasurer until she was elected to the job in November 2003. She has worked as Selectmen’s Secretary for 22 years, formerly served as treasurer of Little League and secretary for Recreation Commission and Republican Town Committee.

When she isn’t working she enjoys travel, reading and cooking.



Board of Finance 6 year term Peter J. Nimirowski

Peter was originally from Manchester, CT. He founded and was the CEO of Phoenix Audio Laboratory, Inc. A manufacturer of professional audio equipment with a worldwide customer base. He sold the company in 1985 and moved to Waterford. In 1994 he moved to North Stonington.

Presently Peter is a home improvement contractor and the owner of Bath Builder. Prior to that he worked in the automotive industry and for 7 years was Cardinal Honda’s business manager. He has a BS in Business Administration.

Peter and his wife Sharon live on Grindstone Hill Rd. Their two children both reside in NYC.

Elwin retired in 2008 after 19 years as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Lawrence and Memorial Hospital...
During his tenure at L&M he also served on the Board of the American Red Cross, the Community Foundation of Southeastern Connecticut, and Mitchell College...

Since retiring, he continues to serve on the Board of Mitchell College; in addition he has joined the Board of the Connecticut Legal Services and is filling an unexpired term on the North Stonington Board of Finance...

Planning & Zoning Commission: 6-Year Term Peter McMorris

Peter has been a resident of North Stonington for fourteen years. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology and a Masters of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Connecticut. Peter has worked at Electric Boat for the past twenty years and is currently an Engineering Specialist supporting a new commercial business venture. Prior to employment at Electric Boat, Peter worked for two years developing subdivision site plans and land usage maps for PlanDev, LLC of Stuart, FL. Peter has also operated a small construction business, Mystic Timber Framers, LLC in North Stonington for the past nine years.

Peter has provided support for youth athletic programs within North Stonington and for the South Eastern Connecticut Youth Hockey League as both coach and administrator.

Peter lives on Jeremy Hill Rd. with his wife Connie and their two children; Courtney is a junior at Wheeler High School and Peter attends Assumption College in Worchester, MA.


Planning & Zoning Commission: 6-Year Term Wayne Wilkinson

Wayne and his wife Pamela live on Stillman Road where he runs Wilkinson’s Machine Shop.

Wayne has been on many boards and commissions over the years. He served on the Board of Finance. After taking a little hiatus he is now serving as Zoning Board of Appeals Alt. Wayne also serves on the Republican Town Committee.


Planning & Zoning Alternate Andrew J. Gaskins


Andrew and his family made North Stonington their home in 2004 and reside on Cossaduck Hill Road. He and his wife Tamara have three children who attend the public school system, and Andrew coaches Little League each year.
Over the past five years they have come to love the feeling of community and have come to believe that what we have as a town is something to be proud of and should be maintained.

Andrew attended the University of Rhode Island, has over 15 years of retail management experience and currently works for Kohl's Department Stores.
He and his family spend their spare time enjoying the outdoors, working with several conservation groups, and volunteering with numerous children's charities throughout the year.

Andrew looks forward to serving the needs of the residents of North Stonington and firmly believes that as a group we can continue to develop and meet the needs of the future without sacrificing our small town, family value oriented community that we treasure so much.

Board of Education 6-Year Term Robert L. Testa

Currently Bob is the Secretary of the North Stonington Board of Education and is a member of the boards finance, personnel and facilities sub committees. Bob also serves as a member of the towns Permanent School Planning and Building Committee. During his current tenure on the Board of Education, Bob has fought hard for transparency, accountability and integrity within our school district. Bob has shown he has the ability to balance his responsibilities of providing the best education possible for our children and his obligation to safeguarding the interest of taxpayers.

Bob will continue to fight hard to ensure that our education resources are being utilized effectively and efficiently and that we are getting a maximum return on our investment in education.

In addition to serving the needs of our community as an elected official, Bob remains active in our community by coaching youth soccer, basketball and baseball in North Stonington. He will continue to represent the best interest of all North Stonington residents with honesty, integrity and transparency.

Board of Assessment Appeals 4 year term Charlie R. Burger III

Charlie has lived on Pendleton Hill Road for the last 44 years. He had six children, all graduates of Wheeler High School.He also has eleven grandchildren.
He is a design engineer with Sea Corp in Groton and possesses an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Thames Valley State Technical College.

Charlie has been a member of the Grange for over 28 years and a member of the Executive Board of the Fair Committee, and serves as the financial secretary for the Fair. He is a member of the Republican Town Committee and for 28 years he has been the treasurer of North Stonington's Boy Scout Troop 71. He also serves as chairman of the Supervisory Committee of the Cottrell Federal CU.

For the past six years, he has served as chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Zoning Board of Appeals Alt. George C. Brown

George was born and raised here in North Stonington and has been a self employed Dairy and Poultry farmer since 1966 and is married with 3 children, and 5 grandchildren.

He is a 1962 graduate of Wheeler High School. A 1966 graduate of the Univ. of CT College of Agriculture with a BS in Animal Science. George has worked in North Stonington, Waterford, Killingly and Salem as the Planning and Zoning Enforcement Officer. He has also served on NSPZC for 8 yrs, Chairman for 4yrs, Board of finance for 3 yrs and is presently serving on the Inland Wetlands Commission and the Water Pollution Control Authority as chairman.

George has the knowledge to get the job done.


Zoning Board of Appeals Alt. Robert L. Testa

Bob is also running for Zoning Board of Appeals and will bring the same dedication and energy to this position as he has done with the Board of Education. Bob recognizes that we need to create a balance between responsible development and preserving our rural character. He believes those decisions must be based upon the greater good of the entire town, not special interest groups.

Economic Development Commission Full 4 year term Mark S. Perkins Jr.


Economic Development Commission Full Two Years Gladys I. Chase

Gladys with her late husband Marvin lived in North Stonington for thirty-four years.
Together they raised six children here, three of which are still making their homes in town.

She has been Registrar of voters for seven years. She serves on the North Stonington Historical Society Board. She volunteers as Librarian at the Steven Main Homestead.
On April 24, 2009 Gladys received the Community Citizen Award from the North Stonington Community Grange No 138.

She has served as Recording Secretary for the Economic Development Commission for the last five years. This prior knowledge will be an asset to the job.
